The Texas Medical Center is the largest medical complex in the world, and its parking matches that scale. If you're staying nearby for a shift, an appointment, or a loved one's treatment, here's what actually works.

Most garages charge by the hour, and the rate climbs fast. A quick visit might cost five dollars. A full shift can run twenty or more. If you're commuting daily for weeks, that adds up faster than most people expect. Ask your employer or the facility you're visiting if they offer a validated rate — many do, and it's easy to miss if nobody tells you.
Street parking exists, but it's limited and strictly enforced. Meters run until 6 PM on weekdays in most zones. Read every sign carefully. Some blocks allow parking only during specific hours, and towing here is common, not rare.
The METRORail Red Line runs straight through the Medical Center, with several stops inside the complex. If your stay includes a rail-adjacent stop, this is often faster than driving and parking combined, especially during shift-change hours when garage traffic backs up.

Shuttle service is another option many visitors don't know about. Several garages outside the immediate complex offer free shuttles to the hospitals. Parking is cheaper a few blocks out, and the shuttle ride adds only a few minutes. This works well if you're staying multiple days and want to avoid daily garage fees.
If you're driving in for a single appointment, arrive early. Garages near the busier hospitals fill up by mid-morning, especially on weekdays. Circling for a spot burns time you don't have if you're already running late for an appointment.
Weekday mornings are the busiest time. Most garages fill up fast between 7 and 9 AM, when shift workers and early appointments all arrive at once. Try to arrive thirty minutes earlier or later than that window. You'll find a spot faster, and it'll be closer to the door you need.

For longer stays, a dedicated parking spot changes everything. Three of our apartments near the Medical Center include one in the nightly rate, so you're not hunting for parking or paying garage fees on top of your stay. If you're booking for a multi-week rotation or a family member's extended treatment, that's worth checking before you arrive.
One more thing worth knowing: some garages require exact change or card only, not both. Keep a card on hand even if you're used to carrying cash for meters.
Parking here isn't complicated once you know the pattern. Plan for the rate, know your rail stop, and consider a shuttle garage if you're staying more than a day or two. It's one less thing to think about during a week that already has enough going on.
