A month in a Houston hotel adds up fast, and the nightly rate is only part of it. Once you count parking, laundry, and food, a furnished apartment often costs less for the same stretch of time — here's the real math.
Start with the room itself. A mid-range Houston hotel runs $110 to $150 a night. Multiply that by 30 nights and you're looking at $3,300 to $4,500 before anything else. A furnished apartment in the same city, booked monthly instead of nightly, typically runs $2,350 to $2,600 for the whole month. That gap alone is close to a thousand dollars.
Parking is the next line item most people forget. Many Houston hotels charge $15 to $30 a night for self-parking, which adds another $450 to $900 over 30 days. Furnished apartments usually include parking in the rate, or it's a flat monthly cost far below what a hotel charges per night.
Laundry is a smaller cost, but it compounds. Hotel laundry service or a nearby laundromat runs $20 to $40 a week for one person, more for a family. Over a month, that's another $80 to $160. A furnished apartment with an in-unit washer and dryer means that cost disappears entirely.
Food is where the real savings show up. Without a kitchen, three meals a day in Houston easily runs $40 to $60, even eating modestly. Over 30 days, that's $1,200 to $1,800. A furnished apartment with a full kitchen lets you cook most meals, which can cut that number by more than half for anyone willing to grocery shop and cook even a few nights a week.
There's also a cost that's harder to put a number on: moving hotels. Many hotels cap how many nights you can book at their lowest rate, which means a 30-night stay can mean switching rooms, or even switching hotels, partway through. A furnished apartment is booked once for the full month, in the same place the whole time.
Add it up and a month at a hotel can land anywhere from $5,000 to $7,000 once parking, laundry, and food are included. A furnished apartment for the same month, with parking and laundry built in and a kitchen to cook in, often lands closer to $3,000 to $3,500 total.
None of this means a hotel is a bad choice. For a short trip, or if you want daily housekeeping and don't plan to cook at all, a hotel can still make sense. But for a stay of two weeks or longer, the math shifts fast in favor of a furnished place with a real kitchen and a washer down the hall.
